Friday Night Football

Friday night we went to our first Rugby game at Suncorp Stadium. The Aussies call it football or "footie" (they really like to shorten words for things!). Anyway, apparently there's about 4 different types of football here, but the game we saw was Rugby League...Brisbane Broncos VS. Gold Coast Titans. Rugby is HUGE here. We didn't know any of the rules but learned them as we went. It was so much fun! The stadium is really nice, we had great seats (row 7), there were heaps of people there AND Brisbane won! It was a close game too...they had to go into over-time or "Sudden Death", as it's called and Brisbane ended up winning when the Captain kicked the ball through the goal post and won the game by a point. The ball just literally made it through, hitting the pole. The crowd went crazy, fireworks went off, and a horse did a victory lap. It was pretty cool. I love the energy at a game! Even on the train ride there, the conductor was asking everyone to squeeze as much as they could, so no one would have to be late for the game! Then they announced..."Go Broncos!" as we were getting off the train. Anyway, good times were had by all. Steve got to meet a couple of the people I work with too, which was nice (we went with them...they're big fans). We definitely want to go to another game.

Fireworks went off whenever Brisbane scored.

The horse doing the victory lap. He came out after each goal.

Did someone say cheerleaders?? See video below of more of the cheerleaders. Steve thought they were great...I can't imagine why...
