Watch out for this tree trunk...ouch!

I have been seeing more and more of these guys around the city, usually just like this...hanging out in their webs. Steve and I have seen bigger ones than this, but still, this guy is pretty big! I wouldn't want one in my house!

This was cool...the pathway goes over the water...just need to step from square to square.

I had to get pretty creative with these muffins. It's actually a gluten free recipe that calls for only natural sugar, that I have made before. Except, not all groceries are available here in Australia, that I used to get in Canada, so I had to improvise. Apparently, I'm not the only one...at the store a guy came up to me with a strange accent and asked if they sell baked beans in Australia. I was like..."Not sure, I have a whole list of things I'm wondering if they sell!" The recipe called for brown rice flour and soy flour, I had to use gluten/wheat/soy free flour because apparently you can't buy brown rice flour here and I can't have soy. It also called for 1 cup canned pumpkin, and judging by the guy's face at the store when I asked if they had canned pumpkin, they definitely don't have that here (which is weird because pumpkin soup is popular)...so, I used pureed baby food pumpkin with sweet corn. Instead of canola oil, I used olive oil, which I'm supposed to have a lot of and omitted the nuts and raisins (I'm not supposed to have either). Anyway, all this to say that they turned out yummy! And, it's actually a snack that I can eat! Which is great because I was getting a little tired of only having fruit and vegetables to munch on between meals! I have to say, I'm already starting to get the hang of this diet and we've been eating very well! We made an awesome curry chicken dish the other night, with brown rice and a great spaghetti sauce with gluten/wheat free pasta last night.

Crikey!

We just got our first power bill and it was $95.85!!! And we've only lived here for 3 weeks! That's a lot! I even called to make sure it was correct. So, either electricity is VERY expensive here or we use way too much of it!
Also, I met with a recruiter today about finding a job. She was very nice. I had to take a office word test and typing test to rate my skills. I didn't do terrible, but I didn't do great. I'm not sure how much help she'll be to me but I still feel good about having my resume in her hands. She suggested doing temp work for awhile, to get some work experience in Australia. I don't really want to do this. I would prefer to get something fulltime and get my feet planted, but I told her to inform me if something temporary comes up, that she thinks I could do. I can decide then if it's something I want. My only concern is that I don't want to start a temp job and then not have the time to do interviews and stuff for fulltime jobs. Anyway, I'm planning to just keep looking and see what happens. I'm trying not to get stressed out about this. People get jobs all the time, right? I just don't really know how to go about getting a receptionist position in a small office. Most job postings are through recruiters and they deal with very corporate companies. Anyway, like I said I'm not going to stress...
HOWEVER, I am stressed about the only box we mailed to Brisbane. Remember how we sold everything we own and stored what was left?? Well, I did pack one small box of the things that meant the very most to me...everything from Christmas tree ornaments to pictures and mailed it to Brisbane the week before we left. They said it would take 4 to 6 weeks to get here. Well, has now been 7 weeks and no sign of it...I'm starting to worry.

Okay, now I'm feeling a little discouraged...

I thought I was on a role with this whole diet thing (see previous post), only to get the results of my food sensitivity testing back today and found out that I am extremely sensitive to cow's milk and also, although not as severely, sensitive to wheat, soy and nuts. This explains the constant stomach pains, including the bad one I have today. I thought I had been doing so well over the last few days but I've been eating wheat and nuts. I have to say, the dairy thing isn't such a big deal. I don't even like drinking milk. Yes, I will miss the Greek yogurt they sell here but, I'll live. Nuts and soy, not a huge deal, but the wheat thing sucks. That limits, yet again, what I can eat. Anyway, it's best I find out now and get used to it. Plus, if eating this way means I don't end up with the stomach pain I have today, then so be it. So here's to a diet of no sugar, dairy, wheat, nuts or soy. Sigh. Cardboard anyone?

Facebook: new member

So, after a few requests from friends over the last few months for me to join facebook, I finally did it. Still getting the hang of it but I fear that it could be more addictive than blogging!!! Anyway, seems like yet another good way to keep in touch with friends and family, so I'm up for it! It's amazing how many people are on facebook! If you're on it and reading this...email me your invite, or whatever they call it. I'm not down with the facebook lingo yet ;) If you aren't on it and interested in joining, go here...http://www.facebook.com/ .

Just cause I can post again! Yeah internet!

Seeing as I have been a little out of the whole blogging world for awhile, I will fill you in on what's been happening with us. Let's see...

- I have been looking for a job. I have applied to many places in the last few days, including a job as receptionist at Steve's work...we'll see if I hear anything back from anyone.

- I saw my naturopath who specializes in nutrition and got the results from my blood tests and my 30 page write up on what I have to do to get healthy. It mostly consists of following a certain diet, in hopes of getting everything that is low (there are a lot of things that are low, including my iron and almost all my "B" levels) up. The diet basically consists of 3 balanced meals a day, each having a starch, protein and fibre. Balanced snacks when hungry. I also have to eat red meat 5 nights a week to help my iron and seafood everyday (to up my magnesium levels). I'm supposed to have 3 pieces of fruit a day and NO sugar and nothing processed. I am also not allowed to have any dairy products right now, at least until the results comes back saying if I am sensitive to it. It's actually not a very hard diet to follow, just a very healthy way of eating. Steve's doing it to, mostly just because we don't like to make 2 meals. I also have a few supplements that I have to take, to help the process along. I go back to see her in 4 weeks, at which time she'll look at the food diary that I am keeping and we'll change anything that might not be working. I am very optimistic that this is going to make me feel better. The naturopath said that if we're on the right track, I should be feeling less tired and have less tummy aches after I eat, in only just 4 weeks. So, we'll see...This was one of my goals for when we moved here...find out right away what makes me feel so tired and what causes my stomach pains after eating. Hopefully, we are on the right track and I'll be feeling normal again before I know it! Oh, and I also have to gain 3 kg of muscle. I'm hoping the walking I do everyday will help and I also want to join a yoga class, once I get a job. There is actually a fitness centre right up the street from us, with a pool and gym equipment that we might consider joining. We have a 7 days free pass, to see if we like it.

- We just found out that Jesse won't be able to fly out of Canada on April 4th as hoped, because of the Easter weekend. He'll now be leaving Canada on April 18th. I was disappointed to hear that, but I guess at this point, what's one more week or so? I really miss him a lot though:( I can't wait to have him here. The lady at the kennel said he's doing very well though and that he loves playing in the snow. He better enjoy that while he's got it! I posted a pic of me and him, just cause...

- The weather has been just beautiful here. Sunny and very humid. I'm not complaining about the heat though! For us, this is a great way to spend the month of March!

- And that's it. Steve is doing well and didn't have anything to add to this, so...it's all good!

Our day at Australia Zoo...

FINALLY we have internet! I have felt completely out of touch with the world! Anyway...I'm back! I can continue to bore you with everyday comments;) Last weekend, we went to the Australia Zoo (the one that Steve Irwin's family owns). It was cool. Very well kept and family orientated. We went with some people from Steve's work (see pic above). It was a fun day.
The drive to the zoo.
Arriving at the zoo...
The entrance...

This is where they do the croc shows (The Crocoseum). It is also where they held Steve Irwin's memorial.

So much to see!

Around the zoo...

The elephants walked holding each others' tails...so cute!

The elephants home. They have water to swim in but apparently prefer showering themselves in dirt to cool off.

The gang, checking things out.
A tasmanian devil.

The Crocoseum show...

This is where we went to watch the show that they put on with snakes, birds and crocs. This show was pretty cool. They educate you throughout the show with what to do if you're bit by a snake, how to avoid crocs and what we're doing to the environment. It was a cool show. The birds would actually fly around the people and were trained to go to each zoo worker at each point, all around the stadium. The birds got pretty close!
Steve Irwin archives were showing on the large TV screen. Man that guy had some serious close calls with crocs! His passion really was amazing!
It was a bit sad being at the zoo. I found that the lose of Steve Irwin was very present. This is the memorial that is set up at the zoo...very sad:(

This guy was a bit much. A Steve Irwin mascot. He was there to encourage the "Crikey" that was screamed around the stadium by the crowd.

This guy actually seemed a bit nervous around the croc. Nothing like Steve Irwin. Did you know that a croc is the most dangerous when it is right at the water's edge? Once they come onto land, they can't move fast at all.
Jumping up at the food. The croc follows the vibrations and noise to know where to go.

More zoo...

How cute is this guy?? His cheeks are filled with food:)

A wombat.
There were lots of poisonous snakes...behind glass. They can all be found in Australia though. Did you know that women are less likely to be bit by a snake? Yup, it's true. The reason? Because women are smart enough to just leave them alone. We learned that at the show we saw. Not a bad pic considering it is through glass.

Asian Otters. Very playful.
This tortoise was over 100 years old!
Still love the koalas.
